Wood and rope

This wooden sculpture captures the essence of a boat or trough, suspended in mid-air by ropes. The smooth lines and natural grain of the wood imbue the piece with a sense of timelessness, while the aerial display adds a touch of whimsy. As if the piece is caught in a gentle dance. The knot work of the ropes adds a contrasting texture, giving the piece a dynamic, almost fluid quality in the visible exposure of the ropes.

A few thoughts about the sculpture:

The fear of loss can be overwhelming. just as you don't want the last bite of a delicious meal or sweet to end, we cling to the memories and moments of what we don't want to end. The sense of loss can be just as profound as the initial enjoyment, reminding us that all things must come to an end, and nothing in is permanent.
